Being the best we can be

Celebrating Success

We believe that celebrating achievements is a fantastic way to recognise and motivate children. We do this in a number of ways.

Certificates and Awards

We give certificates and awards to students who have achieved something notable, such as: in a curriculum area or with their learning; those demonstrating Levendale Goals; for sports achievements; and for demonstrating good behaviour and school values. Every Friday, we have a celebration assembly where children are given their certificates.

Showcase talents

Every Monday, children can bring into school certificates and awards they have achieved outside of school to be presented in assembly. This might include hobbies and activities such as swimming, music, martial arts or football. We also use this time to shine a spotlight on any success stories where children have overcome or achieved something that might inspire their peers.

Team points

From Reception onwards, children are placed in a team:

Children are given team points throughout the week as positive reinforcement of all of the things we do and expect at school. Team Captains from Year 6 are chosen weekly to count the team points and announce the winners in Celebration assembly.

Attendance

Every week, the class with the highest attendance percentage is given a point and extra playtime. We add up the points and the winning class each term gets a reward.

Class Assemblies

Across the school year, we invite parents to see each class present what they have been learning about in school. This might be across the subjects or focus on one specific subject, such as History. Children enjoy demonstrating their work, dancing and singing in their class assemblies.

Displays

Around school, we display children’s work and things they have made. We take photographs of children completing various activities and use displays to show children how proud we are of the things they do.

Parental Involvement

We share information with parents to involve them in celebrating children’s achievement, efforts and progress. We set small step targets for children with special educational needs and look to celebrate individual successes.

Positive reinforcement

Staff give children praise, stickers and stamps to demonstrate that they value the children’s contributions in lessons and the wider aspects of school life. Tokens are given to children as a positive reinforcement, which are placed in a treasure box. Every week, someone from the treasure box is picked out to get a book in Celebration Assembly.
